Prostatitis Risk Factors

The following factors are suspected in increasing risk of developing prostatitis:   

  • HIV infection
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Urethra or bladder infection
  • Bladder outlet obstruction
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Anal sexual intercourse
  • Suppressed immune system
  • Use of a urinary catheter
  • Dehydration or Inadequate fluid intake
  • Pelvic muscle spam
  • Lifting heavy objects.
